IELTS - International English Language Testing System

The IELTS is an exam that is primarily used by those seeking an international education. It is internationally recognised and usually required for entrance to British, Australian and Canadian universities. Importantly, it also helps students learn and practise the study techniques that will enable them to succeed at university.

The course covers the following aspects:

Reading:
You will learn how to deal with the dense reading texts that you will encounter in the exam. There will be practice of skills such as skimming and scanning that will help you to find the information you are looking for more quickly.

Writing:
You will learn vocabulary to help you describe data in Task 1 of the writing exam. To prepare you for Task 2 of the written exam, you will study how to write an academic essay and to improve your ability to explain and organise your ideas.

Listening:
You will practise listening to a variety of subjects and learn how to answer the different types of questions in the listening section. You will also work on techniques to help you maximize your score in this part of the exam.

Speaking:
You will practice speaking in detail about your personal experiences. You will also practice speaking about issues affecting the modern world and develop your ability to explain and justify your opinions on these matters.

The BTI offers a three week and a nine week preparation course:

During the three week IELTS course you will learn strategies to help you do your best in the exam. This is an intensive course, where you will work on the skills tested in the exam. This course is recommended for people who are already at their required level, and want to learn about the format of the test and/or refine their exam technique.

During the nine week IELTS course you will learn exam techniques and strategies. You will study topics related to the themes of the IELTS exam. The four skills - reading, writing, speaking and listening - will be practised and vocabulary and grammar related to the exam will be covered.
